Firewall - Belly shield
31. March 2024
Installed a belly shield with stainless steel foil 0.3mm and fiberfrax. It covers the area behind the 2 exhausts and should keep the tunnel cool in normal oparations as well as providing some extra protection in case of a fire. We avoided sharing the rivets frim the firewall and the belly skin and used stainess steel pop rivets to attach the shield to the belly. We bent the foremost edge around the firewall edge, to achieve a nice round radius. There is room to make a nice Firebarrier 2000 seal.

Firewall - First preparations for the engine
Fuselage · 01. March 2024
With the whole mess at Van’s and Lycoming, I am still not sure, whether I will get an engine, before flying (or at least burning fuel) will be banned in Europe… but let’s hope, i will… I have started with firewall insulation work using fiberfrax under 0.15mm stainless steel foil. Also, we prepared the skybolt attach flanges at the firewall perimeter, this is about as far as we can go without an engine. But after this, we will be able to put the engine mount on, followed by the gear.

Empennage - Empennage attach
Empennage · 18. December 2023
After taking off the wing and riveting on the aft deck, we put the tailfeathers back on. We adjusted the servo cables and worked on the rudder travel, which was exceeding the limit on one side by one degree. To fix that, we built a new rudder stop out of unused material.

Wings - Wings Attach
Wings · 30. September 2023
Attached the left wing, we have to do one after the other, since she she has gotten so big, she hardly fits in our workshop anymore… Very rewarding work, the optics with the aileron and flap on…

Cabin top - doors finishing
Cabin Top · 09. September 2023
Getting the gap just right took a lot of work and then some, but now I am pretty happy. Also taking a break from fiberglass over the winter, because soon it will be too cold for the epoxy to cure properly. Yay!

Cabin top - Windows finishing

Sanding, filling, more sanding, you get the idea…

Cabin top - Windows glassing
Cabin Top · 10. July 2023
Glassing the windows in. The belts and suspenders approach, hoping for extra strength as well as a nice smooth finish in the end… so following the fiberglass ribbon, I used some thinner material to cover some of the rougher transitions before using micro.

Cabin Top - Windscreen Fairing
Cabin Top · 26. June 2023
Back to fiberglass hell… laying up the windscreen fairing. Hold on, this is actually the fun part, the making everything in the workshop dusty again is following this step…

Electrical - AEA Avionics Installation for Experimental Aircraft Class
Electrical · 09. June 2023
Went to Lees Summit Missouri to learn about avionics installation, focussed on the G3X system. Yes, it was a long journey for a 3 day class, but it was well worth it! Took a day to get my brain accommodated to the time difference and went to see the sights in Kansas City as well as some shopping of course. We do not have ACE Hardware in Switzerland, so that is always on the list… The class was fully booked, almost all of the participants were RV builders, 4 fellow RV10 builders amongst them.

Wings - missing rivet in the spar
Wings · 15. May 2023
We noticed a missing rivet in the quickbuild portion of the wing. This meant removing the tank to get access, set the rivet and put the tank back on.
