Did not want to spend 2 grand on the prefab solution, also, I intended to:
- leave as much headroom as possible by narrowing the console between the front seats
- fit a GPS antenna with a ground plane inside the console just behind the doors
- have the air for the overhead get into the console below the bulkhead not through it
- fit a bilge blower as a ground ops fan, no a/c needed on most days here, but getting some outside air in sure is nice
- learn a thing or two about fiberglass on a non-structural part
- cover the whole thing in fabric/leather anyway, the carbon look appeals to men more than women I guess ;-)
Built a model with Styrofoam, wrapped it in tape, sprayed that with wax spray and glassed away. We got comfortable with epoxy and glassing in general but not to a point where we thought it was fun… it took forever, but that’s the deal with epoxy…
Finally, we used our skills to help the neighbour out with his motorbike… :-)
